Answers to your questions…

Hey guys! Tomorrow is the workshop in LA and many of you have been asking what the Artist Portfolio Event is and the difference between that and general admission. General admission is for those who want to come and watch me do a full makeup demonstration on a model and hear me speak, answer questions, share my tricks of the trade, etc.
The Artist Portfolio Event is optional and means that after my demo, you are given your own professional model to do makeup on and have her photographed by a professional photographer. You can then use the beauty shot for your portfolio. General admission attendees are welcome to stay and hang out during the artist portfolio event as well. This is a sweet message from a woman who wrote me after the Dec 4th class… she was nervous because she wasn’t a makeup artist:
“Mario, I really want to thank you for all the valuable info that you shared with our class on Dec. 4. You are an amazing Artist with so much talent. We chatted very briefly outside. That was my first professional makeup workshop ever. I knew I was going to be nervous and maybe not understand everything but your spirit is so calm and welcoming I felt so at home with your instruction. You are the best!”
I hope this helped to answer your questions. You have one more day to register, so click here! Xo Mario

Highlight Action and Options…
I just came across StyleBust, a very cool site covering all things stylish. Check out this review of Eye M Glam, the all over highlighter that I created for Giella Cosmetics. I’m very flattered to say the least! When I created this highlighter, I never thought it would become a product in Giella’s line but I’m so glad that it is available to you all, as it is one of my staples that I rarely work without. Thanks StyleBust for making me smile and thanks to all of you who continue to write positive reviews of Eye M Glam. XO, Mario

Backstage at The Inspiration Gala
![]()
Inspiration, a new amfAR event series produced by Josh Wood Productions, is a celebration of men’s style benefiting the Foundation’s innovative AIDS research programs. Giving back is very important to me so when I was asked to be Key Makeup Artist for the Inspiration Gala event last week, I was honored.
Top menswear designers donate looks which are then modeled in a fashion show and auctioned off. Inspiration was a huge success, raising close to $1 million. Kylie Minogue hosted, Sharon Stone was chair of the event with Kenneth Cole. Dita Von Teese and Courtney Love both performed. Natasha Bedingfield attended as well and many other fun people!
For the fashion show, my team and I worked on Wilhelmina’s top male models. The designs were by Jean-Paul Gaultier and DSquared². Using Smashbox Cosmetics, I gave models a very clean, natural look. Skin was primed with Photo Finish Primer and followed by Smashbox High Definition concealer where needed. Brows were filled in and gelled with the Brow Tech To Go dual ended applicator. To finish, we applied the Lip Treatment SPF 15 on lips to smooth and moisturize.
Below are some pics taken backstage. A big, big “thank you!” to Smashbox cosmetics for sponsoring me and another special”thank you!” to Sally, Robin, Chris and Michal for being part of my team and donating your time and talent. Xo, Mario.
Rockin’ the Red – GET THE “FALL” FACE

Here’s another fall editorial I worked on recently. Photography is by Alexander Neuman, fashion styling by Gregory Wein, hair was done by Colin Yeo and makeup by me
This shoot was the perfect opportunity for me to rock fall’s biggest trend – the red lip.
I went with a very rich, deep red lip color and for the models skin I wanted a clean semi-matte/ satin finish. To keep the look modern and more fashion (less commercial), I did not use any blush, mascara, or eyeliner. Instead I softly defined her eyes using only shadow and filled in her brows.
I must have mixed 100 shades of red that day to find the perfect combo. This is what I used to GET THE FACE! :

On skin – I have this amazing palette of 20 shades of Celebré PRO-HD Makeup Foundation by Mehron. I used very little all over with a damp sponge to get a satin finish to the skin. Under the eyes and around the nose and lips – TimeBalm concealer by TheBalm. Skin was set with a bit of pressed powder by Josie Maran.
I contoured the cheeks using the step-by-step contour kit by Smashbox. The middle shade works well to contour cheeks. I added glow to the top of the cheekbones using Giella’s Eye M Glam highlighter.
Brows – I filled in the outer corners (mid to outter brow) with Dior’s Powder Brow Pencil in Sand and used the same pencil in Blonde to fill in the inner part of the brows. Blend and brush up and out.
On eyes – LORAC eyeshadow in Spice. Apply to the crease and outer corners and also along the lower lashes.
Lips – When using red on the lips, I like to prep them first to make sure the application and staying power is near perfect. I used The Hollywood Prescription two-step treatment to exfoliate, plump and smooth the lips. Next, I applied Crimson lip definer followed by PureMoist Lip Color in Carrie, both by Jane Iredale. Finally, I applied the Linda lipgloss by Duchess Cosmetics to the center of the lips.

Fatal Attraction – ELLE Mexico
This fashion story from Elle Magazine (Mexico) was just published. Alexander Neuman, another very talented photographer shot this along with a few other stories in my book. You may remember when I twitpic’d a model and asked what she had missing on her face? You can see here that it was her eyebrows. ;-) Blocking out the eyebrows gives a very edgy, fashion forward look. For this shoot, I wanted the model to look androgynous and somewhat “hard.”
Will anyone try blocking out their brows this Halloween? If so, i’d love to see pics! There are different techniques to do this. I prefer using a bald cap to cover the natural brow. How would you do it? ;-) Xo Mario
