Backstage at The Inspiration Gala

Inspiration, a new amfAR event series produced by Josh Wood Productions, is a celebration of men’s style benefiting the Foundation’s innovative AIDS research programs.  Giving back is very important to me so when I was asked to be Key Makeup Artist for the Inspiration Gala event last week, I was honored.

Top menswear designers donate looks which are then modeled in a fashion show and auctioned off.  Inspiration was a huge success,  raising close to $1 million.  Kylie Minogue hosted, Sharon Stone was chair of the event with Kenneth Cole.  Dita Von Teese and Courtney Love both performed.  Natasha Bedingfield attended as well and many other fun people!

For the fashion show, my team and I worked on Wilhelmina’s top male models.   The designs were by Jean-Paul Gaultier and DSquared².  Using Smashbox Cosmetics, I gave models a very clean, natural look.  Skin was primed with Photo Finish Primer and followed by Smashbox High Definition concealer where needed.  Brows were filled in and gelled with the Brow Tech To Go dual ended applicator.  To finish, we applied the Lip Treatment SPF 15 on lips to smooth and moisturize.

Below are some pics taken backstage.  A big, big “thank you!” to Smashbox cosmetics for sponsoring me and another special”thank you!” to Sally, Robin, Chris and Michal for being part of my team and donating your time and talent. Xo, Mario.

Making up singer-songwriter Jadyn Maria. Get the Face…

This gorgeous face is Jaydn Maria, a new Universal/Motown artist.  She’s a singer, songwriter and she’s got porcelain skin!!!  I did Jaydn’s makeup recently for the MTV VMA’s where she walked the carpet with Ne-Yo (pics below) and for some fashion week events.  After twitpic-ing and facebooking the pic above, I got so many “get the face” requests.  How pretty is she with the pearcing blue eyes, porcelain skin and lips!?!?!  Heres how to get the face:

Here’s a cute clip of Jadyn blogging right after we finished makeup:  Jadyn Maria on YouTube

Skin – Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation set with NARS loose powder.  Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage concealer under eyes.

Eyes – Brows are filled in with Cork eye shadow by MAC.  For this smoky eye, use Inspiration eyeshadow by LORAC all over the lids and blend it out towards the ears.  Use the same shadow along the lower lash line.  Line the top and bottom of the eyes with Smolder pencil by MAC and blend.  Apply Carbon shadow by MAC to the outter corners of the eyes (top and bottom).  Use GIELLA b-dazzle eyeshadow on the inner corners to open and seperate eyes.  Loreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black on top and bottom lashes to finish.

Cheeks – Brush Desire blush by NARS on the apples of the cheeks and Candlelight highlighting powder by Kevyn Aucoin on the cheekbones.

Lips – Line and fill in lips with Subculture by MAC, followed by Dazzleglass in Smile -also by MAC.

Have fun! Xo -Mario

Get the Face! Adrienne Bailon – Steppin’ Out.

Here it is girls!  I’ve gotten so many “get the face” requests for this look I gave Adrienne Bailon.  This shoot was for the cover of “Steppin’ Out” magazine and we had so much fun working that day.  As you all know, Adrienne’s highly anticipated solo album and single, “Super Bad” will be coming out soon and I’m super excited!  Stay tuned for a lot more “get the face” with Adrienne Bailon…

Adrienne loves to play around and expirement with different makeup looks, so for this shoot we decided to play up the eyes with darker shadows and keep the lips light and matte.  Here’s how I did it -

On skin, use Keihl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer all over.  Follow with Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Foundation.  Set the makeup with a bit of loose powder by NARS.  Use Stila Perfecting concealer under they eyes.

Brows are filled in with Lingering brow pencil by MAC and blended lightly with a Q-tip.

Eyes – I used Urban Decay Cream Eyeshadow in Whipped on the eyelids only.  On the crease and outter corner of the eyes, use Walnut shadow by Smashbox and blend well.  Line the upper lid with Smolder by MAC and smudge towards the outter corners.  Use smolder again on the inner rim of the eyes, but starting at the center of the eye and going to the outter corner again.  On the inner corners of the inner rim, use B-dazzle pencil by GIELLA.  To smoke the eyes along the lower lash line, use Envy by Smashbox with a brush.  Start with a little and build for more intensity.  Blend it out to elongate the eyes.  Finish with two coats of Loreal’s Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black.

Cheeks -  To warm up her skin and contour, I used Casino bronzer by NARS all around the frame of the face and on the hollows of the cheeks.  For blush, I applied Orgasm by NARS to the apples and blended out.  For highlight, I brushed Rose Gold Illuminating finishing powder by STILA on the cheek bones and bridge of nose.  I also put a dab of it right on the brow bone (under the brow).

Lips are lined with Subculture by MAC.  I custom blended the lipstick myself at the GIELLA makeup counter at Henri Bendel and I named it “Bailon Besos.”  Its very creamy and moisturizing!  Comment or email me to find out how to get the lipstick.

I hope you all try this look out and please send me pics!  xo – Mario
