I’m sure you have already seen Kim K on the cover of the current People Style Watch. If not, here it is. In the beauty breakdown below of her cover look, four of the products I used were mentioned but Im going to give you the complete look! See below to learn how to Get The Face! 😉 xo, Mario
On Skin – Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Sand.
By TERRY Touche Veloutee Concealer applied under eyes.
Skin is set with loose powder. I used La Mer’s The Powder in Neutral.
Brows are filled in with Lancomes Le Crayon Poudre in Brunet then brushed out with the opposite side of the pencil.
To get the soft, golden shade on Kim’s eyes, I used Giella’s EYE M GLAM all over highlighter on the eye lids and tear ducts (or inner corners). I also highlighted her brow bone (right under the brows) using EYE M GLAM.
I swept Motives Eye Shadow in Cappuccino along the crease of eyes for subtle definition.
Under her eyes and/or along the lower lashes, I used Motives Eye Shadow in Toast. I blended the shadow with a clean brush to get a very soft and natural smokey look.
I lined and defined the top lids with Style Liner by Dior. I gradually went thicker with the line towards the outer corners.
I finished off the eyes by first curling the lashes then on both top and bottom lashes, I applied Bionic Mascara in Jet Black by Smashbox.
I bronzed Kim’s face along the hairline and on the hollows of cheeks using Cheekers Bronzer in Golden Tan by Covergirl.
To add a bit of glow to the skin I used Fusion Beauty’s Illumifill along the cheekbones.
On apples of cheeks I swept MAC blush in Fleur Power.
Her lips are lined with Josie Maran’s lip liner in Blush.
To add the soft pink color to her lips, I applied Colour Rich Lip Colour in Tickled Pink by L’oreal and finished the lips off with Lip Fusion Color Shine in Flirt.
Im excited to share this short video with you all! It was shot during my first workshop that I hosted for Industry Art Shops. It’s a recap of the entire day that shows parts of my makeup demo as well as the artist portfolio event and photo shoot afterwards. Hope you like it and I look forward to hosting more workshops/seminars in the near future.
Here’s another fall editorial I worked on recently. Photography is by Alexander Neuman, fashion styling by Gregory Wein, hair was done by Colin Yeo and makeup by me 😉 This shoot was the perfect opportunity for me to rock fall’s biggest trend – the red lip.
I went with a very rich, deep red lip color and for the models skin I wanted a clean semi-matte/ satin finish. To keep the look modern and more fashion (less commercial), I did not use any blush, mascara, or eyeliner. Instead I softly defined her eyes using only shadow and filled in her brows.
I must have mixed 100 shades of red that day to find the perfect combo. This is what I used to GET THE FACE! :
On skin – I have this amazing palette of 20 shades of Celebré PRO-HD Makeup Foundation by Mehron. I used very little all over with a damp sponge to get a satin finish to the skin. Under the eyes and around the nose and lips – TimeBalm concealer by TheBalm. Skin was set with a bit of pressed powder by Josie Maran.
Brows – I filled in the outer corners (mid to outter brow) with Dior’s Powder Brow Pencil in Sand and used the same pencil in Blonde to fill in the inner part of the brows. Blend and brush up and out.
On eyes – LORAC eyeshadow in Spice. Apply to the crease and outer corners and also along the lower lashes.
Lips – When using red on the lips, I like to prep them first to make sure the application and staying power is near perfect. I used The Hollywood Prescription two-step treatment to exfoliate, plump and smooth the lips. Next, I applied Crimson lip definer followed by PureMoist Lip Color in Carrie, both by Jane Iredale. Finally, I applied the Linda lipgloss by Duchess Cosmetics to the center of the lips.
It was so great working on this cover shoot for the current issue of Surface Magazine. This story is all about jewelry and was shot by Yu Tsai – he’s a genius photographer and had me cracking up the entire day!
I went for a clean, beautiful, monochromatic look. Her features are softly defined and skin has a satin finish to it. This makeup is very “me.” 🙂 I think a “Get the Face” will be coming soon for this look in which I used Dior Cosmetics to create. Hope you all like it and if you pass by a newsstand, check out the issue.
The other day I received a huge box in the mail and inside was the entire line of Motives cosmetics by the gracious and gorgeous Loren Ridinger! (Pics above of almost everything Loren sent me) My assistant and I spent hours testing all of the shades and textures – many of which will now be staples in my kit.
I used the white pencil on set yesterday on a model and it turned out flawless and lasted all day. Today I used a few different gold and warm toned eye shadows on Kim. The pigment and textures are beautiful and I look forward to using Motives more often. Thanks Loren! Xo Mario
Happy Valentines Day! Here is a Valentines day treat for you all as I promised earlier today. I love doing this soft and pretty makeup on Kim and apparently you love it too! I’ve gotten a ton of requests for a “get the face” post for last nights Valentines look. Hope you try it out and if so, please send in pics to me. Here’s how you can “Get the Face!”
I started out with Josie Maran Argan Primer Mist on the face. Once that dries, go on to your foundation. On Kim –DiorSkin Forever Extreme Wear Flawless Makeup SPF 25. Use just a bit of this foundation and blend well. Set your skin with a little of Smashbox HALO Hydrating Perfecting Powder.
I filled in Kim’s brows with MAC’s Eye Brows Pencil in Lingering. Sweep the pencil with light strokes in the direction the hair grows. Brush through brows for a more blended, natural look.
Using a brush, I applied Sweetheart eye shadow by Josie Maran on the eye lids. Keep the shadow right below the crease. Next, I gave her a thin line on the upper lid using ARTLINER – Precision Point EyeLiner by Lancome. Feel free to extend the line out without overdoing it. Lashes – use one coat of HYPNÔSE DRAMA Instant Full Body Volume Mascara by Lancome. I added some individual long lashes by Ardell to the outer corners of her eyes. Follow with another coat of mascara on the top and bottom lashes as well.
To warm up and bronze the skin, I used Laguna Bronzing Powder by NARS. Using a small shadow brush, apply a dab of the bronzer to the crease of eyes and along the lower lash lines. To make her cheeks pop and to add a gorgeous glow, I swept Powder Blush by NYX Cosmetics in Peach on the apples of the cheeks. For that extra glow on the cheek bones apply N.Y.C. New York Color Sparkle Eye Dust in Opal Sparkle.
Finish off this Valentines look with a sexy and pretty shade of pink on your lips. Line all over with Sephora’s Nano Lip liner in Pinup Pink and follow with Pure Lipgloss in Petunia, also by Sephora. Have fun! Xo Mario
Hey guys! Im so excited to be back working and blogging in this new year, 201o! I took some time off to relax, spend time with family and friends and to be creative. I worked on some fashion editorials and I also had my apartment painted, organized everything (including makeup closets), got rid of some old things. I basically re-did my whole place. I feel like a new person. 😉 I hope that you all had a great holiday as well.
My new year resolutions are to be more consistent with training at the gym, blog more often, give back as much as I can and to make time for myself to rest and be creative. What are your resolutions??
Here are a couple of behind the scenes pics from a shoot I recently worked on. You can see that she has no brows – I covered her eyebrows completely with a technique I learned years ago. I will post the images of this shoot when they come out. 😉
Now that it’s almost Christmas, I finally have put together all of your Halloween makeup looks, LOL. Thank you all for sending in your images. I had so much fun looking through all of the pics – hundreds of them! Below are some of my favorites. Which makeup is your fave?
