I was going through images in my laptop and saw this shot of superstar DJ/model Sky Nellor. This was a advertising shoot I worked on for the Ricardo Rojas Salon in NYC, featured in Vogue. Ricardo and I have worked with Sky (his muse) many times over the years and together, they’re so much fun to be around. Check out that bed head – I love it! A natural look for everyday, LOL. Xo Mario
I recently worked with the sweet and beautiful Christian Serratos for the LA premier of “Breaking Dawn.” For those of you that have not seen any of the Twilight movies, Christian plays the role of Angela, who is best friends with Bella (Kristen Stewart). I think Christian was best dressed at the premier, without a doubt! She wore a stunning fuchsia Alexander McQueen gown and she rocked it!
For makeup, I gave her subtle, smokey cat eyes and radiant, bronzed skin. On Christians lips, I used a very soft matte pink shade. What do you think of the look? Stay tuned for a “Get The Face!” Xo Mario
My workshop is only a couple of days away and Im very excited! My goal for these workshops is to make sure that you all leave that day feeling fulfilled and inspired. In addition to learning from the makeup demonstrations, career advice and hands on opportunity to build your portfolio with professional model and photographer, I wanted to be sure that you all left with the proper tools and makeup. I think my goal will be accomplished! The amazing sponsors have generously sent me all of my favorite products that I’m giving to everyone who attends on Dec 4th and 5th. You will all be going home that day with the best makeup and brushes worth hundreds of dollars. Thank you to the sponsors for making this possible.
December 4th – SOLD OUT
December 5th – Theres a FEW spots left that they added. To register, click here. You can register for the portfolio event OR the general admission. (General admission means you will not be doing makeup on a model for pictures but will be there for everything else.) ;-) XOXOX Mario
Here’s another fall editorial I worked on recently. Photography is by Alexander Neuman, fashion styling by Gregory Wein, hair was done by Colin Yeo and makeup by me This shoot was the perfect opportunity for me to rock fall’s biggest trend – the red lip.
I went with a very rich, deep red lip color and for the models skin I wanted a clean semi-matte/ satin finish. To keep the look modern and more fashion (less commercial), I did not use any blush, mascara, or eyeliner. Instead I softly defined her eyes using only shadow and filled in her brows.
I must have mixed 100 shades of red that day to find the perfect combo. This is what I used to GET THE FACE! :
On skin – I have this amazing palette of 20 shades of Celebré PRO-HD Makeup Foundation by Mehron. I used very little all over with a damp sponge to get a satin finish to the skin. Under the eyes and around the nose and lips – TimeBalm concealer by TheBalm. Skin was set with a bit of pressed powder by Josie Maran.
Brows – I filled in the outer corners (mid to outter brow) with Dior’s Powder Brow Pencil in Sand and used the same pencil in Blonde to fill in the inner part of the brows. Blend and brush up and out.
On eyes – LORAC eyeshadow in Spice. Apply to the crease and outer corners and also along the lower lashes.
Lips – When using red on the lips, I like to prep them first to make sure the application and staying power is near perfect. I used The Hollywood Prescription two-step treatment to exfoliate, plump and smooth the lips. Next, I applied Crimson lip definer followed by PureMoist Lip Color in Carrie, both by Jane Iredale. Finally, I applied the Linda lipgloss by Duchess Cosmetics to the center of the lips.
I’ve been trying to organize all of my makeup, skincare, lashes etc that I have at home and it’s no easy task! Thought I would share some pics with you showing my progress thus far. Keeping all of this (and there is more in boxes that I didn’t take pics of) organized is important to me so that I know what I have and where to grab it when Im packing but it takes so much time! How do you like to organize things? Any tips for me? Xo Mario
Hey guys! Im so excited to be back working and blogging in this new year, 201o! I took some time off to relax, spend time with family and friends and to be creative. I worked on some fashion editorials and I also had my apartment painted, organized everything (including makeup closets), got rid of some old things. I basically re-did my whole place. I feel like a new person. I hope that you all had a great holiday as well.
My new year resolutions are to be more consistent with training at the gym, blog more often, give back as much as I can and to make time for myself to rest and be creative. What are your resolutions??
Here are a couple of behind the scenes pics from a shoot I recently worked on. You can see that she has no brows – I covered her eyebrows completely with a technique I learned years ago. I will post the images of this shoot when they come out.
